From celebrity-inspired creations to friendly faces from the local community, the Abbeyfield Wessex Society houses have been getting creative this autumn as part of their scarecrow celebrations – with each house bringing its own ideas, personality and local connections to the challenge.

At Abbeyfield House in Romsey, residents created what might just be the star of the show: Chef Gordon Romsey! Inspired by the famously fiery chef Gordon Ramsay, their very own Gordon is a much gentler character — not quite as scary, and certainly not as sweary, as the real deal!

Over in Cheltenham, residents at Prestbury House and Heathercroft House took inspiration from another familiar face, creating a Frankie Dettori-inspired scarecrow to tie in with the local Gold Cup theme.

Meanwhile, Clandon House in Dorchester created their scarecrow in loving memory of Dolly Parton, while Macpherson House in Weymouth brought a touch of royal history to the challenge with King George III.

At Abbeyfield House in Chipping Sodbury, the scarecrow fun extended beyond the house itself, with visitors to Yate Library getting involved through selfie photos.

Meanwhile, at Abbeyfield House in Bradford on Avon, the scarecrow hunt featured ‘Billy’ — a scarecrow made by the residents who soon made some new friends! Children from a local nursery came along to visit and even made their own scarecrow to keep him company.

There was more scarecrow friendship at Abbeyfield House in Dulverton, where children from Little Owls Nursery joined residents for a treasure hunt and brought along their very own scarecrow, Sam. Dulverton also hosted a harvest coffee morning, complete with its popular bake sale, raising almost £200. A wonderful result, thanks to everyone who helped make the morning such a success!

At Westbourne House in Bournemouth, residents have been embracing the season by creating autumn wreaths alongside their ‘Wizard of Oz’-themed scarecrow, with a splash of dressing up by the team, and a movie afternoon along the yellow brick road.

It's been lovely to see how differently each house at the Abbeyfield Wessex Society has approached the challenge.

Most importantly, these activities have offered opportunities for residents to  enjoy time together and connect with the wider community.

We congratulate the Abbeyfield Wessex society for providing such a celebration of Autumn to all their residents and communities!
