To celebrate Abbeyfield’s 70th anniversary, the team at Abbeyfield Saltash Society hosted a special afternoon tea accompanied by music from the local Hatt Church Choir, led by our Chair, Eric Distin.
Among those joining the celebration were the Mayor of Saltash, Brian Stoyel—who is also a Trustee—and his consort, Maxine, as well as Trustee Catherine Noakes, residents, staff and volunteers.
Drawing on his many years of involvement with the organisation, Eric shared the story behind the Abbeyfield name and reflected on the history of Abbeyfield Saltash Society.
Residents enjoyed a delicious buffet and sang along to well-known songs from across the decades, making it a wonderfully memorable celebration.

The visit was a fascinating exchange of ideas and experiences, and a reminder that while housing and care systems may look different from one country to another, the values that underpin them can be remarkably similar.
