Joy Trew, a resident at Abbeyfield House in Wells, had a royal encounter of her own at last year’s VE Day parade celebrations at Bletchley Park.
Joy was invited to watch the parade as a veteran of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force. Her daughter was asked whether she would like to be sat next to a ‘very important person’, and she said yes.
Joy took her seat, and to her great surprise, His Majesty The King turned out to be the mystery VIP. The King enjoyed a long chat with Joy and even helped her with her blanket to make sure she was warm enough.
A special connection
King Charles has been a patron of Abbeyfield since 1979, taking a keen interest in our work helping older people around the country.
If you have had an experience involving the King, we would love to hear from you – please contact us with your story at voice@abbeyfield.com.
