Welcome to our home

Our mission

Our mission is to help every resident enjoy a good quality of life through the care and support we provide at Tamar House.

Tamar House is part of Abbeyfield, which has been providing housing, care and support for older people since 1956.

Abbeyfield has a long tradition of community and volunteering, with homes and services across the UK. While every Abbeyfield home is unique, we share the same values and commitment to providing high standards of care.

At Tamar House, these values shape how we support our residents every day.

Life at Tamar House

At Tamar House, you are free to spend your time as you choose. We respect your privacy and support your independence.

Our Activities Coordinator plans a varied programme based on residents’ interests, from crafts and quizzes to entertainment and day trips. Taking part is always your choice.

Visiting hairdressers and beauticians are available, and we can also help with personal shopping when needed.

We welcome people of all faiths and backgrounds and will support you to practise your beliefs and traditions.

Your living space

Every resident at Tamar House has their own private room, which you are welcome to personalise with your own furniture, photographs and belongings.

Rooms include a bed, storage and an emergency call system, so support is available when needed. Most rooms have an en-suite toilet, with accessible bathrooms and facilities available throughout the home.

Our housekeeping team takes care of cleaning and laundry, with bed linen and towels provided. You are also welcome to use your own.

Beyond your room, there are shared spaces where you can relax or spend time with others, including lounges overlooking the garden and a dining room where residents can enjoy meals together.

Our aim is to give you your own space while making Tamar House feel like home.

Care that’s right for you

Your needs and choices are at the heart of your care.

Before you move in, we’ll take time to get to know you and understand what matters to you. Together, we’ll create a care plan that reflects your needs and preferences, and review it regularly with you.

Where possible, you can keep your existing GP or we can help you register with a local practice. You’ll continue to have access to NHS and community healthcare services, with many professionals able to visit you at Tamar House.

We’ll support you to remain as independent as possible and make your own choices about daily life. There are plenty of opportunities to join activities and spend time with others, but how you choose to spend your time is always up to you.

Moving into a new home is a big change, so our team will be there to help you settle in and make Tamar House feel like home.

Respite care

Whether you’re planning a holiday, need a break from caring, or your loved one needs extra support after a hospital stay, Tamar House offers short-term respite care.

Respite stays are usually available from one to eight weeks, with other durations available by arrangement.

During their stay, your loved one will receive the care they need while enjoying life at Tamar House.

Debs Greener - Care Home Manager

I am delighted to be joining the team at Tamar House as the Care Home Manager.

I bring over 30 years of experience in health and social care. I began my career in 1992 as a Care Worker and have worked my way through a variety of roles, eventually becoming the Registered Manager of my first care home in Crediton.

I look forward to bringing my wealth of experience to the team at Tamar House, where I am confident that, together, we will  build a successful home for everyone who lives, works, and visits here. I am excited to work alongside such a dedicated team and to ensure we provide the highest standards of care, support, and compassion for our residents and their families.
