Managed by the Abbeyfield Hertfordshire Residential Care Society, Friars Mead is a warm, welcoming residential care home in Kings Langley, providing 24-hour support in a friendly, homely environment. Our approach is person-centred: we take time to understand routines, preferences, and what matters most to each resident

Home Comforts

Our Care Home offers 26 en-suite rooms across two floors, with a choice of communal areas and quieter spaces. Residents are encouraged to personalise their room with their own furniture and décor, and we also have double rooms for couples. Many rooms and communal areas look out onto the garden and green spaces.

Enjoying Good Food

Meals are freshly prepared and nutritious, with choices offered at each meal and support for individual dietary needs. Mealtimes are a social part of the day, with snacks and refreshments available between meals. Our most recent Food Hygiene inspection recorded strong standards across food handling, cleanliness, and food safety management.

We have a 5 star rating for Environmental Health and an Excellent rating with HCPA’s impartial feedback survey.

Staying Active & Challenged

We run a regular programme of meaningful activities shaped around residents’ interests—social, creative, and wellbeing-focused. We also maintain close links with the local community and welcome visits from family and friends. We support residents to stay connected through phone and video calls, where helpful, and we keep communication clear and responsive for families.

Keeping connected

Doors at Friars Mead are always open welcoming visits from family, friends, volunteers and pillars of the local community. We also encourage and assist with phone calls, video communication and letter writing from all over the world! We operate using a smart care system which helps families to stay informed with daily care and activities of their loved ones.

We are not just a Care Home but a Home that cares - we want residents and their families to look upon Friars Mead as their own

Respite stays

We offer respite stays with 24-hour support, home-cooked meals, and full use of communal areas and gardens. A respite stay can provide reassurance after illness, support a planned break for carers, or help someone decide whether longer-term living at Friars Mead is right for them.

Friars Mead is managed by the Abbeyfield Hertfordshire Residential Care Society.
