As a society we aim to run all of our homes to a high standard offering tranquil, positive, communal environments for residents to enjoy retirement and later life. We encourage all residents to remain as independent as possible and live life to the full.

Welcoming residents into our community
Abbeyfield Wessex Society are a member society of Abbeyfield England, a national charity providing houses and homes to older people throughout the UK. Together we are one big family. We run twelve independent living houses throughout Dorset, Hampshire Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire. We welcome residents over the age of fifty five to live with us. Our houses have between eight and twenty five rooms meaning you can choose to live in a smaller house or join a larger community in some of our bigger properties.
Although each house is different they all offer the same high standard of safety, security and service.
As a society we aim to run all of our homes to a high standard offering tranquil, positive, communal environments for residents to enjoy retirement and later life. We encourage all residents to remain as independent as possible and live life to the full.

1955
The first Abbeyfield house opens in Bermondsey.

1963
Abbeyfield Wimborne & District was formed

2004
Abbeyfield Wessex Society was established.

2009
Our largest house, Westbourne House, opens.

2023
We continue to enrich the lives of older people throughout Wessex.

2025
We have Expanded! AWS now have 12 Houses!

Throughout the year, the Abbeyfield England Wessex team puts on a varied and engaging calendar of social events for you to enjoy.

Community Monthly Lunch Club - Pennant
Community means everything to us! At Abbeyfield Wessex, we understand how difficult it has been these past few years. We, at Pennant, are delighted to give a warm welcome to our local community with our monthly lunch clubs. For just £7.50, you will be served a home cooked two course lunch followed by fun and conversation. Spaces are limited! Our lunch clubs happen each month on a Thursday from midday. Weekly Arts and Crafts and Companionship Afternoons at Pennant House
Our Pennant House hold weekly Creative Companionship afternoons, every Wednesday, from 2pm. We get creative, we natter and we create items for charity, such as bonnets for premature babies at Poole Hospital and poppies for the Royal British Legion.
