Abbeyfield Silverdale Society is a registered charity and provides residential care and supported housing in Lancashire and south Cumbria. The Society is seeking an ambitious, commercially aware and values-driven Registered Manager to lead, grow and continuously develop its residential care service at Cove House in Silverdale. This is an important leadership role within the Society’s senior management team and the successful candidate will combine strong operational and regulatory oversight with a significant focus on business and service development, people management and community engagement.
This role is ideal for a Registered Manager who is looking to develop their strategic management skills, enjoys building relationships, but above all is committed to delivering outstanding, person-centred care. The successful candidate will hold overall accountability for CQC registration, compliance and quality on behalf of the Society.
Working as part of the senior management team, the key responsibilities are:
Leadership, Quality & Compliance
- Provide strong, visible leadership to the service, fostering a high-performing, motivated and values-led team culture at Cove House.
- Maintain full regulatory compliance at the highest standard, ensuring alignment with CQC Fundamental Standards, the Care Act 2014 and all relevant legislation.
- Lead the service with the ambition of achieving and sustaining an “Outstanding” CQC rating for the service at Cove House.
- Ensure robust quality assurance systems are embedded, monitored and continuously improved.
- Oversee the management of incidents, complaints, safeguarding concerns and investigations, ensuring learning and service improvement outcomes.
- Act as the Registered Manager with overall accountability for safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led service delivery.
Operational Oversight
- Contribute towards the delivery of the Society’s strategy in terms of day-to-day operations, working closely with the management team to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery.
- Ensure effective staffing structures, capacity planning and resource utilisation to meet current and future demand.
- Oversee staff recruitment, induction, training, supervision and development, building a skilled and engaged workforce aligned with Abbeyfield values.
- Ensure the effective use and accuracy of the electronic care systems
- Adherence to the Society’s cyber security protocols
Business Development & Growth
- Play a key role in growing the service, increasing both private and commissioned care packages.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with commissioners, local authorities, health professionals, discharge teams and other referral partners.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, service lines and growth areas in line with company strategy.
- Act as a confident ambassador for the Society, promoting our brand, values and reputation within the local care community.
- Contribute to business planning, budget oversight and performance monitoring, ensuring commercial sustainability.
- Work collaboratively with the Chief Executive Officer, senior management team and trustees in delivery of the Society’s overall strategy, while taking ownership for driving growth, innovation and continuous improvement.
Performance & Reporting
- Monitor service performance and management information, using data to inform decision-making and improvement plans.
- Prepare and present reports to the trustees, highlighting performance, risks, opportunities and recommendations.
- Ensure operational and strategic objectives are aligned and delivered effectively.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ management experience within a regulated care setting
- NVQ/QCF Level 5 in Leadership for Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
- Eligible and willing to register with the CQC as Registered Manager
- Strong working knowledge of CQC regulations, Care Act 2014 and safeguarding frameworks
- Proven ability to lead and embed person-centred care
- Strong commercial awareness, with experience contributing to business growth, referrals or service development
- Excellent leadership, communication and relationship-building skills
- Highly organised, able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Confident IT user (Microsoft Office, care management systems, digital platforms)
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain)
