We were delighted that eleven local artists were willing to donate their artwork free of charge to refresh our tired walls here at Drake Lodge.
The artists were from a group called Drawn to the Valley which was set up in 2004 by artists and creatives to support each other and promote the Tamar Valley region which has long been a source of inspiration for those wanting to create from the beauty around them.
This region is rich with archaeology, industrial archaeology, history and natural beauty. The moors and the coast have both been great draws for artists and creatives living and working here.

Karen Austin brought us around 15 framed botanical paintings which we can’t wait to hang up on our ground and 1st floor corridors. To see more of Karen’s artwork, you can find her at https://drawntothevalley.com/artists/karen-austin/
Chris Stone brought in a wonderful picture of the Lido in Plymouth which we are delighted with. Chris has his own website www.chrisstoneartist.co.uk should you wish to view his pictures.
‘Sheltering from the Storm’ is a fantastic piece by Lucy Griffiths featuring two hand drawn badgers with gold detailing. Lucy sells her art at www.lulubellatree.etsy.com.
As part of our 70th anniversary this summer we are hoping to have a mini art exhibition here for some of the artists as a thank you for their kindness.

Discover Drake Lodge
Originally built in the late 19th Century, Drake Lodge has a rich history much like Tavistock itself. Fully refurbished in 2010, Drake Lodge is proud to offer older people support and companionship in later life.
We have 17 en-suite rooms and one en-suite flat plus a communal lounge and dining room. We also have a purpose-built function room for activities and presentations, large enough for all residents and volunteers to socialise together.
